Big 6 and Big 8 are two craps bets located at either end of the craps table. With these wagers, you bet on whether a big 6 or a big 8 will be rolled before a 7. You wager on each number separately.
If the option you bet on comes up before 7, you win. However, if a 7 is rolled before, you lose. These are standalone bets in online craps because apart from 7, 6 and 8 are the most frequent outcomes.
Big 6 and big 8 bets are considered risky bets. Find out why below.

Big 6 and Big 8 Bet Payouts and House Edge
Big 6 and big 8 bets both pay at a ratio of 1:1 or even money. However, the house edge on the bet is around 9%, not pleasing.
Many beginners confuse Big 6 and Big 8 bets with place 6 and place 8 bets (which is why they are often called “sucker bets.”). The difference between these two wagers is huge. Firstly, a place 6 or place 9 bet pays 7:6. Secondly, the house edge on these wagers is around 1.5%
So, if you want to capitalize on the numbers 6 and 8 coming up frequently, you should be looking at place bets. After all, you want to avoid giving the house a massive advantage over you if you want a good chance of winning.
Why You Should Avoid Making This Bad Bet
So, what exactly makes big 6 and big 8 bets so risky? And, why should you avoid making this bet in a real money craps game?
Essentially both bets involve betting against the number 7. And, we’ve explained how the bet works above. The important bit of information is that it pays even money. This means that if you bet $10, assuming that the number 6 will roll before the number 7, you receive $10 in winnings.
Many players don’t see this as a fair enough trade because if you do the math, there are six possible ways in which you can roll a 7, but only five possible ways you can roll a 6. As such, there are more ways to lose than win with this even money bet.
Then, there’s also the fact that if you play a place bet on 6 or 8, you face better odds. Normal 6s and 8s have a payout ratio of 7:6. This means that if you bet $6 on either of those regular numbers, you’ll receive a payout of $7.
This is not much, but it is $1 more than what you would’ve received if you wagered on a big 6 and a big 8, and you face a much lower house edge.
