13 states have legalized some form of online gambling. The kind of legal online gambling they offer includes online casinos, poker, sports betting, and lotteries. In the future, we may see more states allow this activity as some are already in the process of legalizing it.

Below we list the states that have made online casinos, poker, or sports betting legal.

New Jersey

After Nevada, New Jersey is the biggest gambling state for land-based casinos. However, they are number one in the regulated online gambling market. They offer online poker rooms, casinos, and sports betting.

Pennsylvania

In the State of Brotherly Love, online sports betting, casino sites, and poker rooms are legal. They were legalized in 2019 and are mostly operated by the local casinos. PA players have the option to place bets at land-based casinos, online, or even from a mobile app.

For online sports betting, you have the options from Unibet, FanDuel, and DraftKings.

Nevada

With Nevada being the gambling capital of the United States, you would think that all forms of online gambling would be legal in the area.

However, Nevada has only legalized online sports betting and poker. At the moment, the state has no plans to legalize online casinos. Nevada was the first state to legalize online sports betting in August 2010. Online poker was introduced in 2013.

West Virginia

West Virginia put in place laws to regulate online gambling in 2018 and launched online sports betting in the same year in December. Online casinos were launched in July 2020. Online poker is expected to come sometime in 2020 or 2021. West Virginia residents can place their sports bets on mobile apps.

Iowa

Iowa only offers online sports betting, which was legalized in 2019. However, to participate in the activity online, bettors will have to register online and complete their registration at a land-based casino.

The local casino you register at has to be one that has partnered with the online sports betting site. At the moment, Iowa has no plans to legalize online poker and casino sites.

Delaware

Delaware has legalized online sports betting, poker and casino sites. Online poker and casino sites were launched in 2013, while online sports betting was launched in 2018.

Indiana

Indiana is also one of the states that legalized online sports betting in 2019. You can place bets on mobile and retail outlets. There are currently eight online sportsbooks, including BetRivers, FanDuel, DraftKings, and Unibet to name a few.

The Hoosier state has not made any plans to legalize online poker and casino sites.

New Hampshire

New Hampshire only allows online sports betting. They launched online sportsbooks in October 2019, allowing brands such as DraftKings to offer their services. What’s more, it will be the only online sportsbook offering sports betting services in the state. DraftKings also working with The Brook to offer retail sports betting.

Currently, there are no plans to legalize casinos sites and online poker.

Oregon

Oregon only allows online sports betting. It was legalized in October 2019. They don’t have plans to legalize online poker and casinos.

Colorado

In the Centennial State, local casinos were permitted to operate online and retail sportsbooks. There are 33 casinos in the state, and all of them have applied to get a license that will allow them to operate retail and online sports betting sites.

Colorado went live with online sports betting in May 2020, but the vote to legalize it happened in November 2019. At the moment, the state has not yet decided to legalize online poker and casino.

Montana

In Montana, sports betting was legalized in May 2019 and was launched in March 2020. Bettors are allowed to place their bets on retail and mobile.

However, mobile sports betting is only authorized to be done in lottery retailers and taverns. Online poker and casinos are not yet legalized.

Michigan

One of the other states that offer online sports betting, casinos, and poker rooms. They were all legalized in December 2019. However, retail sports betting accepted their first bets in March 2020.

While online casinos are expected to accept their first wagers in October 2020. The local casinos are permitted to apply for a license to operate online.

Illinois

The state launched online sports betting in June 2019, and the first retail sportsbooks were launched in March 2020. Rivers Casino launched its online sportsbook called BetRivers, which is also mobile-friendly. William Hill launched in September 2020. Online poker and casinos are not yet legalized.

Washington D.C

Online sports betting is the only form of online gambling that is legalized in this state. The bill was passed in January 2019 and was launched in May 2020. However, the launch was a soft platform launch for browser-accessible sportsbooks.

  • Illinois – offers scratch cards, Mega Millions, instant games, and daily lottery games.
  • Michigan – accepts lottery ticket sales, instant keno, and scratch cards.
  • Kentucky – accepts online sales for jackpots and daily draw games.
  • New Hampshire – allows online lottery ticket sales.
  • Pennsylvania – allows online scratch-offs.
