How to Play Powerball

A Powerball ticket costs $2. After buying a ticket, you will have to choose five numbers from between 1 and 69 and an additional “Powerball” number between 1 and 26.

You can select your own numbers or, alternatively, you can get a quick pick – when a machine chooses numbers for you. The draw happens every Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET. Tickets sales have a cut off time, which is between one and two hours before the draw.

Powerball Payout

For a lottery game that offers a large jackpot, you would think that there is only one way to win, which is by matching all your numbers. But, this couldn’t be more wrong. In fact, there are nine ways to win in Powerball.

If you play with Power Play for an additional $1, you can multiply the jackpot you could potentially win by 2, 3, 4, 5 or 10 times. Here is a breakdown of how the payouts work:

Match Prize 2x 3x 4x 5x 10x
5 numbers + Powerball Grand Prize Grand Prize Grand Prize Grand Prize Grand Prize Grand Prize
5 numbers $1 million $2 million $2 million $2 million $2million $2 million

Powerball $4 $8 $12 $16 $20 $40

Powerball Numbers

Choosing your lucky number is up to you. If you would rather not have that pressure, you can let the terminal choose numbers for you.

The winning number will be picked from two pots. The first pot has white balls between 1 and 69. Five numbers will be selected from this pot. The second pot has red balls between 1 and 26. The only number selected from this pot is the Powerball.

If you miss the draw, do not worry; the lottery game website posts the results of each draw on their site. So, you can see the numbers that were selected from all previous draws. Also, the date of the next draw will also be displayed.
