Over the last two decades, Chelsea has completely reinvented itself as a team that consistently challenges for the English Premier League title. Chelsea betting is pretty popular because of it, with hundreds of soccer fans placing futures on the team to win several tournaments each season.
It all started when Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich bought the club in 2003 to turn it into a brand similar to Manchester United or Real Madrid. Abramovich brought money to the club, which allowed for the purchase of high-profile players. The following year, he hired legendary manager José Mourinho to lead the team, and so began Chelsea’s run at the top.
In recent years, the team has experienced a fall from grace as they are not competitive as they were two seasons ago. However, with former player Frank Lampard at the helm, Chelsea seems on track to challenge for the league again sometime soon.
If you would like to find out more about Chelsea odds, stick around. Below we have a look at the team’s chances of winning any major title this season. As mentioned above, Chelsea has seen a bit of a fall from grace in recent years. Arguably, their real glory years took place between 2005 and 2010, where they won the league three times throughout six seasons under Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti – both who now manage other teams in the league.
Since then, Chelsea has managed to win the league on two other occasions with the latest win coming in 2017. But since then, they have struggled to keep their place in the top four.
Unlike in their glory years where they were unbeatable at home, the team looks penetrable against weaker and stronger teams. While in an average season, dropping a few games wouldn’t be an issue, Liverpool and Manchester City look unstoppable. And this is an issue if you want to challenge for the league title.
Overall, we wouldn’t recommend you bet on Chelsea to win the Premier League this season. But stranger things have happened in sports betting (like beating Bayern Munich in Germany for the UEFA Champions League trophy in a final that was thought to be all over).
The FA Cup requires less consistency than the English Premier League. Usually, you’ll find that the teams struggling to take the top spot in the league often perform very well in their Cup campaign – after all, silverware is silverware.
Chelsea’s last cup win was in 2018, but they have finished runner-up twice in the previous five years, including in 2020. Overall, betting on Chelsea to take the FA Cup isn’t a pipe dream. They have a good chance of winning because, together with Arsenal and Manchester United, they are a great Cup team.
Thus, a future on them to win the Cup may payout. With every team facing long odds to win the FA Cup at the beginning of the season, this is a bet that could payout well!
At the moment, Frank Lampard is the manager of Chelsea. However, he has started the 2020-21 season on an average note. If the team keeps performing this way, it may put his job in jeopardy. After all, Roman Abramovich is not known for his patience. (Chelsea has had 14 different managers in the last 16 seasons).
The team seems committed to Lampard now, but if he starts failing, we’d be on the lookout for Chelsea manager odds. Although we don’t know who they are going to hire, seeing as almost all of Europe’s best managers have had a go at the role outside of Pep Guardiola.
Chelsea is a team with a relatively recent history of exponential success. Their honors include:
- 6 Premier League titles (with the last being in 2017)
- 2 English Championship titles (with the last being in 1989)
- 8 FA Cup titles (with the last being in 2018)
- 5 League Cup titles (with the last being in 2015)
- 4 Community Shield titles (with the last being in 2009)
- 1 UEFA Champions League title (with the previous being in 2012)
- 2 UEFA Europa League titles (with the last being in 2019)
- 2 UEFA Cup Winner’s Cup titles (with the last being in 1998, defunct in 1999)
- 1 UEFA Super Cup (with the previous being in 1998)
Chelsea currently has odds set at around +1200 to win the league this season. So, a successful bet on them should payout well. We don’t think they’ll win though; Manchester City and Liverpool seem too strong.
Chelsea is often considered the most hated club in all of the soccer because Roman Abramovich used money to buy success. It was one of the first smaller clubs to receive such a significant investment, which pelted the team to success.
Arsenal is considered to be Chelsea’s biggest rival. However, Chelsea is not Arsenal’s biggest rival – that title goes to Tottenham Hotspur. A lot of the hatred between Chelsea and Arsenal stems from the Mourinho/Wenger rivalry.
Chelsea fans are referred to as the Blues or the Pensioners.
Chelsea is thought to be worth $2.576 billion.
Chelsea’s motto is Nisi Domius Frustra, which translates to “Unless God is with us, all will be in vain.”
