Today, we’ve got an MLB classic rivalry game on our hands with the New York Yankees vs Boston Red Sox. This short American League East series will be played in the Yankee Stadium. The Yankees come into the game at the top of the East table with a win-loss ratio of 4-1 this season so far. Their last game saw them get a high-scoring win against the Baltimore Orioles.
The Red Sox come into this game with a record of 3-4. They are on the wrong end of the table if they want to make it to the playoffs this season. They already got two big wins over the Yankees city rivals – the New York Mets – at Citi Field. So, perhaps, they’ll be able to get some more in the city that never sleeps over the heavily favored Yankees?
New York Yankees vs Boston Red Sox Predictions
Before we get into the predictions, let’s have a look at some of the stats and facts surrounding this one:
Yankees
- Jordan Montgomery is projected to be starting on the mound for the Yankees today. It will be his first game this season. Still, Montgomery hasn’t had a very long career due to injuries. He has an overall win-loss record of 11-7 and an ERA of 3.91. He finished last season with a 6.75 ERA after only playing in two games.
- The Yankees hitting staff are coming off some big wins off the Orioles. Luke Voit got himself a Grand Slam, and Aaron Judge also got a big score home run. Giancarlo Stanton also continued his streak of hits. Overall, it is tough being a pitcher against the Yankees offensive lineup.
- As mentioned above, the Yankees come into this one with a record of 4-1. However, it is important to note that the team has played fewer games than the other teams in the AL East due to COVID19 precautionary measures postponing their games against the Phillies. So, they may not be as dominant as they appear to be.
Red Sox
- Ryan Weber is projected to be starting on the mound for the Red Sox today. This will be Weber’s second start this season. Overall, we can’t say that Weber’s career statistics are very favorable. He has a win-loss record of 3-10 and an ERA of 5.34. He already lost one game this season where he posted an ERA of 14.73. This does not bode well for the Red Sox.
- The Red Sox’s offensive lineup isn’t too bad. Christian Vazquez seems to be playing well this season. He has already hit for two home runs and three RBIs. Jose Peraza and Alex Verdugo aren’t doing too badly either. So, the team does have some firepower in this area.
- Boston has been struggling this season, to say the least. The team has only been able to pick up three overall wins this season, and they haven’t yet played some of the tougher teams in the league. They are currently fourth in the AL East but were only able to get one win over another team in this division.
Our Prediction
To be honest, we think that Boston is playing games starting Ryan Weber against the New York Yankees. While one bad game shouldn’t mark a player as permanently bad, we believe that experimenting with a pitcher who seems to be playing badly against a team with a good set of hitters isn’t a good idea.
Scrap the moneyline on the Yankees on this one because you won’t earn too much. Instead, try your luck on the 1.5 run line or the over 10.5 line. Stick to the high over if Weber does indeed start this game.
